My name is Dieynaba, I’m a 30 years old woman from Senegal.
Teranga Flower Farm is my flower farm and floral design studio based in Round Top, NY. My goal is to share the joy of beautiful, fresh, sustainably grown flowers.

Our story

I moved to NYC in 2013, with 2 suitcases and big dreams. As the typical young adult living in NYC, I’ve explored many careers, including being a model, a painter, a nanny, a hostess and a prep cook. Nothing has brought me more joy than gardening. I started growing vegetables and flowers in 3 tiny urban gardens, totaling 1/10 an acre, and in May 2021, I found a 6 acre farm in Stamford, NY. I am lucky enough to be able to take advantage of these 2 very different growing zones, I’ve learned so much through that first year flower farming. In 2022, I started exclusively growing at my farm in Stamford. In 2024, I moved my farm to Round Top, NY. My new farm is larger, warmer and much closer to the city.

Prior to March 2020, I’ve never put my hands in dirt. Oh wait, I grew peanuts in biology class in fifth grade, but that doesn’t count. Like many others, I spent months in quarantine, however I was lucky enough to have a backyard. With all the restrictions caused by COVID 19,  knowing where my food is coming from and having a steady, personal supply of fresh produce was more important than ever. Moreover, I was discovering this wonderful ecosystem in my garden that I wanted to actively contribute to. I remember planting everything out in May, then patiently waiting for my crops to mature. I stared at my garden all day, having this deep feeling that something was missing. That something was more flowers. I wanted to have my own fresh homegrown bouquets for my dinner table. The marigolds and calendulas, although beautiful, were not enough. So there I went in the middle of summer, looking for more flowers to put in my garden. I was seeking something original, something wild, something different. Digging through YouTube, I discovered speciality cut flowers, and I absolutely fell in love with them. The offer such a vast range of shapes, sizes, scent and color. I was completely hooked.

The more I learned, the more I realized flowers were my new purpose. In January 2021, I decided to dedicate all my time and energy to flowers, and become a florist. Everything I know, I’ve learned through the ASCFG, university papers, YouTube, a lot of farming and floral designs books and so much Googling.
It’s like I finally found my calling, what I’ve been waiting to do my whole life. Nothing brings me more joy than learning about all different types of flowers and how to grow, harvest and arrange with them.

I want to share that with the world, I want others to experience all the positive feelings seeing, touching and smelling flowers can bring. I hope to be sharing some blooms with you soon.
